MAKE-UP TRYOUT DETAILS:
The schedule (and final times) for the tryouts on Sept 6th are TBD.
We know most of you also would like to know the format and what to expect at the tryout. Here is how the stations and examples of what the evaluators will be looking at during the tryout.
Pitching:
10 pitches: You'll throw 10 pitches to showcase your skills.
Velo (Velocity): They'll measure how fast you throw.
Location: Accuracy in hitting spots.
Off Speed Mix: Ability to vary speeds with off-speed pitches.
Mechanics: Evaluation of your pitching mechanics.
Adjustability to work to spots: How well you can adjust your pitching to hit different spots.
Hitting:
Front Toss: Balls pitched from the front to simulate game-like hitting.
Mechanics: Evaluation of your batting stance and swing mechanics.
Bat Speed: How fast you can swing the bat.
Bat to ball skills: Ability to make contact with the ball consistently.
Overall mechanics: General evaluation of your hitting technique.
2 rounds of 5: Two sets of 5 pitches each to hit.
Hitting Machine:
Adjustability: How well you can adjust to different pitching speeds and styles.
Can they catch up to velo? Ability to hit high-speed pitches.
2 rounds of 5: Two sets of 5 pitches each from a hitting machine.
Infield:
Mechanics: Evaluation of your fielding technique.
Arm Strength: How strong your throws are from the infield.
Fielding skills: Ability to handle ground balls from various directions (forehand, backhand, slow rollers).
7 ground balls: Seven ground balls hit to you for fielding practice.
Outfield:
Mechanics: Evaluation of your outfield fielding technique.
Range: How far you can go to catch balls hit in different directions.
Handling fly balls: Ability to catch fly balls at various angles and distances.
Throwing: Can you accurately hit the cutoff man when necessary.
6 fly balls: Six fly balls hit to you for outfield practice.
These stations cover a comprehensive evaluation of your skills in pitching, hitting, and fielding both infield and outfield. We will also be including a 30 yard dash.
